The third part of the CSI Trilogy starts with a young woman who seems to be trying to escape from someone or something as she runs into an elevator then out along a corridor, down a stairwell & out into the front of a casino/hotel. In the security room we can see the woman on camera as she leaves and is pulled out of view as if attacked, she then re-emerges falling to the ground. Brass looks at his watch & makes what seems another call to Ray who doesn't seem to be responding to his calls, he leaves a message, before we see Ray on the Vegas strip showing Hookers & the public a photograph of Madeline Briggs to see if anyone knows of her whereabouts. Nick is seen pulling up & jumping out of his SUV, telling Ray he should check his phone more regularly & that he was worried he was out of touch for so long. Nick offers to help Ray after his shift ends, in trying to find out if anyone knows where Miss Briggs is TAG LINE;Nick - It seems these days everyone has another job.
The woman is identified by David Phillips as Barstow television weather girl presenter Dede Chase, She is found to have been raped assaulted & her throat cut, & they also find a freshly added tattoo of a red love heart with a diamond in the center of it. Then it is soon established that she came to Vegas with her married lover Brett McDowell hoping to sort out their relationship. Mr McDowell becomes the CSI's suspect until they interview him & he states that they did arrive in Vegas together but they had a row, she told him to go to hell so he dropped her off on the strip before driving back home to Barstow. Blood found on Dede Chases earring comes back as that of Madeline Briggs, taking their case back to connect to the two previous trilogy episodes in Miami & New York & the human trafficking operation they were all trying to investigate. This peaks Rays interest once more, as he recalls the present date the 15th November where he knows where a pimps hookers party is taking place at club. Brass, Catherine, Nick & Ray go to the club & Catherine explains as they see similar tattoos on women to that of the one found on Miss Chase, that they are pimps ownership marks to let other pimps etc know who they belong too. Brass & Nick approach a hooker on a stage dancing who bears the same tattoo as Dede Chase. Brass snatches a bill note from the womans attire handing it to Nick as they question her. Nick runs a quick on the spot drugs test on the powder residue on the note which comes back positive for cocaine, this gives them reason to arrest her in order to question her in more detail away from her pimp back at LVPD. Mrs Briggs comes into the crime lab confronting Ray about his lack of contact with her regarding her daughter Madeline's case & the apparent sighting of her in Vegas in the last two weeks. Ray reassures her he is still active on her case. The hooker identified as Diane Jasper refuses to tell Brass anything so she is released & trailed by Brass & Ray with Greg back at the lab looking at a live video feed he is being fed of the people Diane Jasper greets & enters the residence. The female house owner greeted is identified as Susan Samuels, her son Anthony is approached by Diane as if she is about to be affectionate with him, but he brushes her off ushering her into the house. They need a reason to go into the residence to search or question anyone inside, Greg does a close up shot of Anthony Samuels in the AV lab & he spots the same earing that was found to have still missing Madeline Briggs blood on it, so this gives Brass & Ray good reason to enter the house now. Ray & Brass enter demanding to know where Diane Jasper is, they find her beaten up badly tied to a chair with her mouth taped up. Ray examines the house quickly for Madeline Briggs to no avail, but in the bedroom he pulls off bedding on a bed to uncover a substantial amount of blood, so he has the mattress taken back to the lab so he can process it. Meanwhile Catherine, Nick & Greg turn up at the new crime scene to process it.Catherine takes pictures of the property, while Nick finds a bloodied baseball bat, & Greg takes the outside, finding an outside BBQ area he takes a closer look finding Dede Chases wallet & ID. Brass interviews Anthony Samuels at LVPD but the pimp doesn't co-operate with the investigation, giving them no extra leads in the case as he puts on a cocky attitude. Wendy tells Ray that the blood on the mattress he recovered from the Samuels house contains DNA from Madeline Briggs & another contribution from someone with 13 alleles in common with her. They theorize about the amount of blood found, wondering if Madeline is still alive & what Ray now believes to be Madeline having had a miscarriage because she was still early in her pregnancy. Catherine & Nick go to the hospital to interview Diane Jasper, but she refuses to answer their questions and becomes hysterical to the point where a nurse comes in to sedate her. After Diane relaxes & falls into a drug induced sleep Nick helps Catherine turn her over onto her side so that they can observe the same tattoo found on Dede Chase, but much larger on her upper back. Catherine thinks its unusual for Diane to have a larger tattoo, then she suspects it is larger to cover up perhaps another former pimps identifying tattoo. So her & Nick shine a UV light on it which shows up another butterfly tattoo underneath similar to the one found on the severed foot of victim Ashley Tanner from the CSI Miami episode. The butterfly tattoo is tracked back to Russian College professor & pimp Dimitre Sedeski, then we see Brass interrupting Sedeski's outside lecture class with his students telling the class they are dismissed. Jim shows him a picture of a badly beaten Diane Jasper in the hospital, but receives very little to help them with their inquiries. Dimitre spots Ray in the distance checking out his Cadillac SUV so makes his way towards him stating he cant examine it & making his protest. Ray tells him that the car is in public view & is okay for him to look it over as Brass re-enforces the law to the new # 1 suspect. Ray picks up on traces of the vehicle having recently been driven out in the Nevada desert where trace evidence was found on the severed leg of a victim from the Miami episode, So Brass has the car impounded as evidence & hauled back to the lab for further analysis by the CSI's. Dimitre tells them he goes out to the desert to collect butterflies. Nick & Ray process the SUV in the lab garage, Nick runs a test on the milometer & trucks GPS system & pinpoints an area in the desert that the vehicle has been recently. Ray on closer inspection finds traces of blood on the sill step which is later identified to be that of Madeline Briggs who must have been in truck for it to have gotten there. Meanwhile Catherine decides to process Diane Jaspers purse under a UV light & she finds a definite arterial blood spatter pattern across the side of it, making Miss Jasper a new prime suspect in the killing of Dede Chase. Brass & Catherine go back to the hospital to confront Diane Jasper about the blood evidence, & seeing she is caught explains that she was in love with & was a special 'wifey' (Not married legally just a pimp term) to Anthony Samuels, but one night while out driving they spotted Diane Chase, so they asked her if she wanted a lift. From there they took her back to Anthony's mothers home & he raped Dede making her his new hooker, but when Anthony talked to Dede about her being his 'wifey' it upset Diane who thought Anthony really loved her only. When Dede is sent out on her first 'hookers job' the night she was killed, she bolted trying to escape the clutches of Anthony, but Diane was watching her, & was the one who caught up with her outside the hotel/casino. Dede asked Diane to escape with her, but Diane slashed Dede's throat killing her out of jealousy. Meanwhile Nick & Ray are out in the desert at the GSP point that was tracked via Demitri's SUV & they have a device for locating possible human remains under the ground. Nick picks up on something buried, so Ray crouches down & starts moving some of the loose desert soil to uncover a mummified remains of what looks to be a female. Fast forward to some time later & they have found the remains of a further 3 mummified remains. Back at LVPD Ray interviews Demitri with his lawyer, the evidence of the finds in the desert are put to the Russian, then it is put to him that because Pimp Anthony Samuels took Diane Jasper one of his hooker girls, he ended up, or was placated with being handed Madeline Briggs as a replacement. When asked by an angry looking Ray where Madeline's whereabouts are, Dimitiri simply tells him he released her & let her go. Frustrated & a little annoyed that he still doesn't know if Madeline Briggs is still alive, or her whereabouts if she is, Ray gets ready to head back out to the strip to continue his search for her again with Nick joining him out in the lab hallway carrying out his earlier promise to help out. Suddenly Ray remembers Brass' reference to the 'Hovine', so he tells Nick he's going to send out a text to Madeline in the hope that she will get in touch. He does this & we see a short scene of one hooker reading the message then turning the message off, then we see another mystery woman receiving the text. Ray is leaving the lab to walk towards his car when he feels a presence nearby, glancing over towards the person he sees that it is Madeline Briggs who he has been tracking & trying to save since he first went to Miami in the 1st installment of the CSI Trilogy episodes. Ray reasures her that everything will be alright now for her as he embraces her & the episode & trilogy ends. GSR , Grissom or Sara References: None Funny moments: When Catherine opens the gift package Ray sent to the team from Miami & New York & Hodges pulls out & puts on a novelty pair of sunglasses almost in mocking of how Horatio Caine wears & enphasises wearing sunglasses in the CSI Miami show. Eww! moments: Interesting facts: Ubiquitious guest star Mark Sheppard, who played Romo Lampkin on "Battlestar Galactica" (a character who knew a thing or two about shades), has a guest role in that Nov. 12 "CSI" episode. Sheppard, who has a credit list as long as your arm and apparently by law must appear on every scripted show in existence, also appears on USA's new show "White Collar" Oct. 23 and "Supernatural" on Nov. 19. |
