Episode: 1.23 Strip Strangler
The case of a serial rapist and killer who left little or no clues at his crime scenes, led to the FBI being brought in to help investigate, much to Grissom's distaste. He became annoyed and worried when Sara offered to act as a decoy for the FBI in trying to lure the killer, which she later did without his consent or knowledge. At a later press conference his lack of political skills led to him being suspended, and the team going to his home and secretly helping him to continue with the investigation. As evidence started to come to light, Grissom alone went to the home of their suspect, where he attacked and about to be killed before Catherine saved his life by shooting the suspect.
Episode: 3.02 The Accused is entitled
The case of two murdered women, and the likely suspect being a famous movie star, led to Grissom's former mentor Phillip Gerard acting for the stars defense team, and snooping around the LVPD lab making sure all evidence in the case was being handled by Grissom's team. As Sara & Grissom studied a piece of evidence Phillip Gerard came in inspecting their processing procedures, and revealed to Grissom, Sara's relationship with the EMT Hank Pettigrew, who attended the crime scene and moved a key piece of evidence to carry out life saving attempts on the victims. Grissom is clearly surprised by the revelation, hurt, sadness and possibly confusion clearly shows in his features briefly as he looks toward Sara, then takes his mentor to his office. His frequent periods off loss of hearing interrupt his testimony as he is on the stand in court delivering a key piece of evidence to the jury, he has to ask the defense attorney to repeat her question.
Episode: 3.15 Lady Heathers box
This case leads to Grissom meeting Lady Heather the dominatrix who runs the dominion, as the case unfolds Grissom seems to be intrigued and attracted to the dominatrix, which leads to him kissing her and she leading him off up her stairs. The next day they are seen drinking tea at a table, leaving it very ambiguous to the audience as to whether or not they actually slept together. When Heather reveals as they are drinking that she is a diabetic, and Grissom remembers that the victim of the case was killed with a type of insulin pen, he tells her he has to investigate it, clearly making her a suspect in the case. Heather shows that she is hurt by his mistrust and silent accusation, and tells him "I believe i just heard you say stop", It was later proved to be another suspect but Grissom realized that the damage was already done to any kind of future relationship with Heather.
Episode: 3.23 Inside the box
Grissom's loss of hearing periods become more pronounced, as Catherine picks up on it and he prepares for his surgery. Later he is seen waiting in his hospital room dressed in his gown awaiting to go and have the surgery, when Catherine arrives and offers him some comforting words and a hug, before walking down the hall to the OR in his gown, refusing to use the wheelchair provided.
Episode: 4.12 Butterflied
The case of a murdered female that bares an uncanny resemblance to Sara, leads to Grissom assigning her to the perimeter only, and him becoming obsessively involved in solving the case and working for three straight shifts. On investigating and later finding a suspect, but with only little evidence to convince a jury to convict, Grissom is very disappointed with the inevitable outcome of releasing the killer. Grissom makes a weary kind of heartfelt confession to the suspect in the interrogation room, most probably in a last ditched attempt that the suspect De Lurie will confess to the crime. Unbeknown to Grissom, Sara is in the observation room listening to what she feel he is talking about their non-relationship and on hearing his 'I couldn't do it' in reference to risking his career to follow his heart, Sara looks upset.
Episode: 5.09 Mea Culpa
Grissom realises possible new evidence of a previous case whilst in court. With the re-opening of the case, Ecklie puts Grissom and his team under the supervision of his own Day Shift Supervisor, Sofia Curtis. After solving the case, Ecklie happily splits up the team, making Catherine Day Shift Supervisor transferring Nick and Warrick to join her whilst Sofia is forced to be demoted and join the Night Shift.
Episode: 6.06 Secrets & Flies
Ecklie asks Grissom to review another entomologists crucial evidence findings in a case, which he does, but at first can't seem to find any fault with it. Then on closer inspection, he discovers that the entomological experiment testing has been tampered with, so Grissom goes to court to discount the other entomologists findings.
Episode: 6.24 Way to go
Grissoms good friend Jim Brass is shot by a suspect at a kidnapping, and because Jim gave him medical power of attorney, he is asked by the treating doctor to make a life and death decision for his friend, which he does. Later the decision proves to be the right one as Jim awakens and starts his long recovery. Grissom & Sara's romantic relationship is revealed to the TV viewers.
Episode: 7.01 Built to kill part 1
Grissom investigates the first of the serial miniature cases, which would in a later episode have him becoming obsessed, and wanting to get into the mind of the killer by building a miniature of his own office.
Episode: 7.06 Burn out
Grissom investigates a case of two missing boys, and after spending some lengthy time questioning a known ********* suspect,and fighting a migraine attack, he identifies that he could be on the verge of burnout on the job.
Episode: 7.11Leaving Las Vegas
After the realization he is on the verge of burnout, and in desperate need of a break from his job at the LVPD lab, he decides on a sabbatical taking up an invitation to teach a short program of lectures at Williams college, and bids goodbye to his team. On finding Sara in the locker room, their goodbye is awkward as he first checks the hall for other people and steps inside the room, and quietly says to her "I'll miss you" before leaving Las Vegas.
Episode: 7.15 Law of Gravity
Grissom returns from his Sabbatical and greets Sara who has just come back from a garbage dump, and they both seem really happy at his return. Also Grissom has to deal with the investigation and fallout of the death of his temporary replacement whilst he was away Keppler.
Episode: 7.24 Living Doll Living doll page
Grissom gets another miniature crime scene and this time it is Sara that is involved, so the whole team begin their investigation to try and find her.
Episode: 8.01 Dead Doll Dead doll page
Grissom and the team continue to try and find Sara, eventually finding her collapsed in the desert, then she is flown by medivac helicopter escorted by Grissom to hospital.
Episode: 8.04 The Case of the cross dressing carp
Grissom proposes to Sara saying "You know maybe we should get married" to which she replies after being stung by a bee and he removing the sting "Yes.....lets do it"
Episode: 8.07 Goodbye & Good Luck
Sara gives Grissom unbeknown to him a goodbye kiss in the lab hallway as David Hodges watches on, because she has decides to leave the lab and Las Vegas to try to deal with her ghosts. When Grissom inquires from Judy the receptionist if she had seen Sara, a goodbye letter is given to him from Sara.
Grissom carries on investigating the Dick & Jane serial cases as he prepares to leave the CSI Crime Lab. He spends a little time with each of his friends and team in this episode & the previous one saying his goodbyes. After he is seen smiling walking out of the lab.
Grissom walks out of the lab
The camera opens up to him walking along carrying & consulting a GPS locater, as he enters a clearing he stops as he spots Sara photographing a monkey. No words are spoken by either as she turns around and sees him stood there, Sara looks quite emotional as Grissom drops his backpack and quickly goes to her kissing her as he embraces her with eagerness.

"I think it's the right time because I think that Grissom and myself are in similar journeys," the actor told Entertainment Tonight. "It's an adult man in his fifties who is trying to figure out what to do for the rest of his life."
