Billy is not comfortable with his fame & Stardom
@ His Hollywood walk of fame star ceremony on the 3rd February 2009 he looked quite nervous & very uncomfortable at times, displaying nervous actions with his hands, that he doesn't seem to know what to do with them, and that i have observed him to do on many a public appearance before.

He has often been seen rubbing behind his ear and slightly dipping his head quite a few times, but his hands seem to display his nervousness the most;
5th February 2009 - Chicago Sun times by Ray Richmond The Hollywood Reporter Q. With the success of “CSI,” I’ll bet it’s hard to go out incognito. A. There’s nobody who doesn’t recognize me now. That’s the worst part of what “CSI” brought to my life. I can wear hats, disguises — it doesn’t matter. They always know it’s me, and it happens in the strangest places at the strangest times. Petersen agrees, saying, “Stardom is most uncomfortable for me in Chicago. In L.A., if people recognize me, they are too cool, or pretend to be too cool, to pay any attention. Here people act as if they are shocked to see you. They’re rubber necking. They are following me ... photos, autographs, grabbing.” Source Chicago Tribune interview with Rick Kogan

Billy’s back in town Chicago!. He and Gina, who were married in Italy in 2003, have two places in Chicago: a house on the Northwest Side and a downtown condo. Billy on GSR and Jorja Fox leaving the show May 2008

After college, Billy and his then wife, Joanne, spent time in Spain, where they started a Shakespeare company in the Basque region. 11th March 2009 - Article in the UK's Radio Time TV Magazine
Why has Sara been so important to him? She is the heart of Grissom. Jorja Fox and I have been slowly playing with the chemistry between them for years. He's also had a real fascination with Lady Heather, hasn't he? They have a very intricate relationship that comes with a great deal of respect. But she has a lot of trouble, a lot of problems, and ultimately Grissom likes to stay away from problems. Source JFO
Interesting fact; 26th November CSI Files News Bullets Captain Paul Watson is the founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an environmental group which will be trailing Japanese whaling vessels into the Antarctic this December. Last year, Watson said some of the whalers fired live ammunition at the activists, and he had a souvenir to prove it. "I was wearing a bullet-proof vest but the bullet hit my badge (an anti-poaching badge) so I had this bullet," Watson told The West. He gave the bullet to William Petersen (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's Gil Grissom). "He's one of our supporters."

Questions & Answers;Q. Weren’t you up for a role in “Goodfellas” (1990), too? A - Billy - Yeah. I got flown in to New York to have lunch with Marty Scorsese. They weren’t sure if De Niro was going to be available for their shooting schedule. That didn’t work out. But my attitude in this town has always been that I’d rather have control of my life than be in anything. I’d rather say “No” and have it be my “No.” You can control your own destiny. It can be done.

Near Death Experiences of the rich and Famous William Petersen
 The star of the TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, had a near-death experience which he described in an interview for Playboy magazine (March 2004, page 139). "Years ago, doing a play in Chicago, I cut my finger in half onstage. We obviously had to stop because, well, I didn't have a finger. By the time they got me to the ER I had lost a lot of blood and passed out. I could hear the doctors working on me, saying that they had lost my vital signs. I was on the "All That Jazz" escalator with a long tunnel and a lot of white light. Then I specifically remember a dominant male voice saying, "It's not your time. Get off the escalator. You've got **** to do." I came to, and got sewed up. Something in me changed, a sort of knowledge that somewhere on the other side, its good. For weeks, the more I talked about it, the more freaked out people got. Some of them were like, "Okay, whatever: You took too many drugs." --------------------------------------
