She's back from the jungle!
"CSI" favorite Jorja Fox, last seen in a cameo in William Petersen's final episode in January when their characters Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom reunited in Costa Rica, is returning to the veteran crime drama.
She is said to appear in five episodes of the series' upcoming 10th season, reprising her role as Sara.
"We're thrilled for Jorja's return to CSI," said executive producer/showrunner Carol Mendelsohn. "The viewers and longtime CSI fans will be excited to discover where life has taken Sara Sidle and what brings her back to the CSI team in Las Vegas in our premiere episode."
CBS executives and "CSI" producers had said that they were looking to make significant creative changes on the show next season following a ratings slide following Petersen's departure. |

Ausiello:You can drop the "or." I've got a spoiler and a tidbit, courtesy of exec producer Naren Shankar. First the tidbit: "You're going to get an explanation for that ring Langston (Laurence Fishburne) still has on his finger in [episode 2]." Now for the spoiler: "We're going to launch a new season-long serial killer arc. Starting at the end of our premiere, a brand new nemesis [will emerge] who has a very unique way of killing." More unique than that whole miniature thing? "This time, the crime scene is always the body," Shankar teases. "We're calling him Dr. Jekyl."

CSI' Scoop: Sara's back! Will Grissom be next?
Less that a year after reuniting in the jungle with leading man William Petersen, Jorja Fox is heading back to CSI this fall -- alone. But don't take Fox's five-episode to mean that Sara and Grissom's happily-ever-after was a bust. "They're absolutely together," insists executive producer, Naren Shankar, who nonetheless says Sara will drop hints at trouble in paradise. "We're talking about a couple of very independent individuals who have decided to share their life together. The first few months of that for any couple are a weird adjustment." So, if it's not a breakup, what does prompt Sara to revisit the Vegas strip? Shankar and fellow executive producer Carol Mendelsohn maintain it was not a mandate from CBS to stem last season's rating slide. That said, the pair concede that the back-to-back-to-back departures of Fox, Gary Dourdan and Petersen, combined with the arrivals of Laurence Fisburne and Lauren Lee Smith, took a toll. "The family had disintegrated a little bit," Shankar says. "We had people off in their own bubbles, and we want to restore that family [feeling]. And Jorja's helping with that." Adds Mendelsohn: "Sara comes in and brings everyone together. And she helps Catherine understand that as he [new] leader, she needs to make the team cohesive and really fire on all cylinders again." |

CAROL MENDELSOHN: Yes, five non-consecutive episodes.
How is she reintegrated?
SHANKAR: We'll learn a little bit about what she's been doing for the past couple of months. We're going to start season 10 in real time -- two-and-a-half months since the end of last season. She comes in because the team is a little understaffed and overworked. One of our characters reaches out to her and brings her back in, unbeknownst to the other guys.
Should we assume that her happily ever after with Grissom didn't fare so well? They did end up together, right?
SHANKAR: They absolutely ended up together. Grissom is referenced in [Fox's first] episode. You'll get a sense of the good and the bad of the two of them actually being together for real. Because we're talking about a couple of very independent individuals who have decided to share their life together. The first few months of that for any couple would be a weird kind of adjustment. In some ways, it's easier to be in love with somebody who's not there.
MENDELSOHN: And you have to admit that Sara and Grissom had a unique courtship. It [makes sense] that their further relationship would also be unique.
So they didn't break up then?
SHANKAR: No.
When's William Petersen returning?
MENDELSOHN: You never know when and if Grissom will show up on CSI. The theme of the season is family. And he certainly is part of the family -- a big part of the family.
Are there any concrete plans?
MENDELSOHN: We're certainly open to it, but no, there are no concrete plans.

Right around March, I felt really rested and was itching to work—I was ready and going to meetings and auditioning. When I was in Atlanta [filming a guest shot on Lifetime'sDrop Dead Diva], I got the call aboutCSI—it was completely out of the blue! I never thought I’d be going back to work with people that I knew, I thought I’d be starting new things. That was a surprise, so I’m going back to work and it’s with the same people who I’ve worked with for eight years in the past. [Laughs] I was thrilled! For me it was a huge compliment!
Do you know yet what brings Sara back to Vegas?
I think all I can really say is [pause] the team has had a rough year—there has been a lot going on—and so Sara comes back mostly just to see if she can help for a while, because she loves those guys and she misses them.
And if Sara is back in the lab, where does that leave Gil?

CSI Files also reported that Nick Stokes (George Eads) will be getting a promotion at the start of the season. Langston will also get a promotion, Mendelsohn revealed. "One of the things that is part and parcel of the new season is Ray Langston graduating from being that newbie to being a CSI 2," she explained to the Chicago tribune. During the time between the season nine finale, 'All in' , and the season ten premiere, Langston has been "taking every class and seminar he could" in order to become the criminalist Gil Grissom (William Petersen) believed he could be.
"I don't want to speak for Laurence Fishburne, but I think what attracted him to the show was that he wasn't coming on as just another supervisor, that he was coming in as a newbie and was coming in to learn," Mendelsohn continued. "We thought that would be a great opportunity for the audience to re experience the fundamentals of forensics (Another lame excuse). It was always thought that he would graduate very quickly into [being] a more learned CSI."
Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) will return for the first five episodes of the season because the departure of Riley Adams (Lauren Lee Smith) will leave the CSI team understaffed. Mendelsohn said there are no plans to cast a replacement for Riley at the present time. There are also no definite plans to bring Grissom back. "We're hoping Grissom will make a return appearance we don't have a date and we don't have a deal, but we talk to Billy all the time and he would love to come back," Mendelsohn said.
The return of Sara is partially responsible for the promotion that Nick will receive in the season premiere. "The interesting thing is, Catherine[ Willows, Marg Helgenberger]'s decision to promote Nick, even though it's well deserved, is facilitated by the arrival of Sara Sidle. [Catherine then] sees the world according to Sara Sidle and realizes something about leadership and about the team."

Ray Langston will crossover to both CSI: Miami and CSI: NY during November sweeps, studio confirms to TVGuideMagazine.com exclusively. The storyline will begin on Monday in Miami, continue on Wednesday in New York and wrap up the following day in Las Vegas.
It will be the first time a crossover will involve all three of the CBS hit procedurals. The last crossover occurred in 2005 with CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, but the episode did not involve any of the characters from the original CSI.
(William Petersen refused to appear on film with the charactor of Horatio Caine in the CSI Las Vegas season 1 cross over with CSI Miami, and he was against the two spinoff shows from the start - gsrbritfan)
